Group Profile:
The Mariachi Juvenil Oro Y Plata was founded in 1998 by it's founder and director, Maestro Juan Manuel Ramos, who offers his knowledge from the area where the original mariachi was born. His home town of Zacoalco de Torres is located between Cocula and Tecalitlan in the southern area of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The organization's goal is to expand the knowledge of the Mexican culture by teaching the folk music of the Mariachi to any child despite their race, religion or economical status. The student's range from ages 6 through 18 and come from various backgrounds. The program has grown throughout the past two years and has developed into two groups, a performance group and a beginner's group. We have been very successful in our attempts to educate the community and hope to unite with other programs such as ours.
