| Group Profile:
On Sept.13 1961, A man by the name of Abel Q. Garcia
and family relatives gathered together to form a mariachi in San Luis, Rio
Colorado Mexico. The group was named Mariachi Azteca.  The group
was made up of 7 family members and 3 closest friends who were
considered of the family. For many years they performed through out
Mexico and the U.S. They've also had the opportunity to accompany
famous singers in both Mexico and U.S. Then in May of 1977 the group
was renamed Mariachi Estrella de Abel Garcia. This group was made up
mainly of family members and from a 10 piece mariachi was cut down to
a 7 piece mariachi. The group was also in 2 movies that were filmed
here in the Coachella Valley. Then in 1988 the Mariachi Estrella gave
an audition to perform at a casino in Laughlin, NV. A five week tryout
became a seven year career. In those seven years ex-members from famous
mariachis like Vargas, Sol de Mexico to name a few were given an opportunity
to perform in Laughlin with the Mariachi Estrella.
In 1995 the Mariachi Estrella decided to return to it's home town in
Coachella,Ca.The group now is a four piece or customers demand. more...
