Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Amélia has
played the trumpet for approximately nine years. She will be completing
her bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the University of
Phoenix. She started playing mariachi music six years ago as a
junior in high school, and has had to constantly demonstrate her musical
abilities amongst her male colleagues, enabling her to succeed in the
male-dominated mariachi world.
Her greatest moment in mariachi performance was her
first performance with Mujer 2000, stepping on stage at the Hollywood Bowl
Latin Jazz Festival in September 2001. "The feeling was
amazing! I was so nervous, I was afraid I would forget my music.
However, I enjoyed myself so much that I knew at that moment was going to lead
not only to a rewarding career with Mujer 2000, but also to friendships that
would last a lifetime." Amélia continues to reside in El Paso, Tx
and is proud to be the first Texan in Mujer 2000.
Prior to joining MM2k, Amélia performed with
Mariachi Jaliscience and Mariachi Femeníl Las Caponeras in El Paso.
