Lubella is yet another multi-talented MM2K
woman. Not only does she play mariachi music but she has also excelled in the classical
and fiddling musical genres. She has played for three years with the University of the
Pacific Symphony and in 1997 she traveled to Australia with the Central Valley Youth
Symphony (CVYS). The CVYS participated in an international competition at the Sydney Opera
house and won the gold medal. Lubella has also excelled as a soloist.
She has been awarded 10 "superior"
ratings by the California Music Education Association at their annual meetings and has won
first place at various classical music competitions.
She also has won various fiddling competitions. When she needs relaxation, she says,
"I belly dance or read." She loves biology and expects to become a registered
nurse one day. Her greatest mariachi moment was playing with Mariachi Cobre at the EPCOT
Center in Orlando, Florida. "Mariachi music makes me feel strong," she
says," it reminds me of my ethnic background and it gives me a lot of pride,
especially when I wear my charro outfit, it turns me into a totally different
person." Prior to joining MM2K she played with Mariachi Guadalajara and Mariachi Las
Aguilas in Sacramento.
